Thinking about training to be a hairdresser? Perhaps you
see yourself as a senior stylist in a few years' time? Well, a
career in hairdressing has a lot to offer.
A great way of getting into the industry is to do an
apprenticeship in hairdressing.
You will get paid whilst learning the basics. Typically as a
junior in a hairdressing salon you will assist the senior staff
whilst learning the basics skills and techniques.
Your jobs are probably going to include things like
washing/shampooing, conditioning, drying and styling hair and
mixing and applying hair colouring. You will learn the basics of
customer care and administration such as making bookings. You'll
study hairdressing topics such as hair and skin testing, the
effects of chemicals on hair and skin, and the principles of hair
colour selection - there's also the option to learn about promoting
products, perming, or relaxing different types of hair.
If you progress to do an advanced hairdressing apprenticeship
you will learn how the more advanced forms of cutting, styling and
colouring hair so that you can re-create the latest styles worn by
celebs!
If you do a hairdressing apprenticeship you will spend most of
the working day on your feet. It's not easy work! It's also vital
that you look really smart (and have an even better hairstyle). You
will need to be able to talk to your customers and colleagues
effectively so as to make sure you give them the look that they are
after.
